Linoleum Blockprints by Leni Fried

This linoleum block print was inspired by a visit to Carriacou. This is a 13 sq. mile island off of Grenada in the British west Indies. Like many places in the Caribbean where conch was harvested for food, there are large conch piles left on the shore line. I always stopped after snorkeling and looked in the conch pile. It was there I found many shells that had been battered and changed by the sea over the years. This winged conch was one of many maritime warriors that was too heavy to bring home, except as a drawing . It was this drawing that later became the original print pictured here. I hope to go back to raid the conch pile once again.
