Linoleum Blockprints by Leni Fried

This linoleum blockprint was inspired by a visit to Carriacou. This is a very small island off of Grenada in the British west Indies. We stayed at my favorite guest house Bayaleau Point Cottages. These self catering cottages are bright, clean and inviting. They have their own reef so you can get up with the sun, go for a swim and snorkel before breakfast! I would often linger at the water’s edge picking up shells to bring back to my island studio. The hardest part was mixing the colors transparent enough. Part of my fascination with the Caribbean is capturing the irridescent and shimmering color - especially the colors of the water, where unlike the northeast, you can see clear down to the bottom!
