Linoleum Blockprints by Leni Fried

This linoleum block print was conceived and printed on the island of Nevis. Nevis is a small, extremely friendly place just off of St. Kitts in the British west Indies. One of the most exciting experiences in the tropics was seeing plants that we in the northeast normally grow as houseplants in their native environments. Here I was sitting in an entire grove of banana trees making the drawing for the print above. These trees are cut back once a year almost to the ground and in one season grow and produce huge racks of bananas! In the print above there is a small tree just starting. The leaves make a soft slapping sound as they hit each other blown together by the ever constant trade winds.
